Due to his position, he was not able to enlist in the war. Percy, it seems, was a very avid sailor and held numerous positions (Treasurer, Auditor) with the Brittannia Motor Boat Club, Ottawa, during the late 60's and early 70's. An exploration of the Canadian War Museum identifies that he had donated numerous nautical items from his estate.
