Driver Family Immigration to Australia

This is the story of the Driver family from Stroud, Gloucestershire. It describes chronologically, their immigration to Australia for a new life.

The Drivers leave for a new life "Down Under"

The first of the Driver families to emigrate to Sydney, Australia, was Wilfred Driver and his family. They comprised of Wilfred Driver, his wife Amy and their (nearly) 2 year old son, Godfrey. They sailed aboard the SS Orontes, departing from London Docks on 19 December 1912.  Also on board was Wilfred's brother Francis Victor Driver, aged 18.

Nine months later, Wilfred's sister, Rhoda and her husband John Smith and their son, Alfred, also immigrated to Sydney. They sailed aboard the SS Osterley, departing from London Docks on 26 September 1913. This voyage was also scheduled to take 43 days.

With the exception of son Alfred Driver, all of Rosa's children had now immigrated to Australia. Rosa's husband William Driver had passed away in 1911 and so much of Rosa's family now lived abroad. Rosa clearly decided that she wanted to go to Australia. Two years to the day after John and Rhoda left the UK, Rosa left too. She sailed aboard the SS Orontes, departing London Docks on 26 September 1915 on a voyage scheduled to take 43 days.
