    • Little is known about Ernest prior to his seemingly first appearance in the 1861 census after his marriage in 1859. When he married, his name was recorded as "Ernest Merry Wood" although this doesn't appear to have been used throughout his married life (The 'Wood' part was dropped). It is also difficult to identify birth records for all of his children but, we do know that at least one of them, Arthur, was registered as a Wood.
