1 Rowden Hill, Chippenham- Percy was abandoned at, or shortly after his birth on the steps of one Mrs Fanny Pope. Fanny was, it is believed, connected in some way to The Salvation Army and she brought Percy up. Family history suggests that Percy was a difficult child and that he was in and out of Borstal until finally joining the Army when he was around 16 or 17. Fanny died when Percy was in his 20's. So far, no trace has ever been found of her.
