Welcome to our Mitchell Family Online Wiki!
What is a Wiki?
A wiki is a Web site that allows users to add and update content on the site using their own Web browser. This is made possible by Wiki software that runs on the Web server. Wikis are usually created and maintained by the collaborative effort of site visitors, but in our case, because of the nature of the MFO Wiki, all the articles have been written by me. A great example of a large wiki is Wikipedia, a free encyclopaedia in many languages that anyone can edit. The term "wiki" comes from the Hawaiian phrase, "wiki wiki," which means "super fast."
How does this Wiki work?
This Wiki works in two ways. Firstly, when browsing the main genealogy database, a place that appears as a link (ie under-lined), indicates that more information about that place is available on this Wiki. Just clicking on the link will open up the corresponding Wiki page. Similarly, when looking at a person's individual page, an icon next to their name indicates that more information is available. Click the icon to be taken to the corresponding Wiki article.
Now what do I do?
Select an option from any of the categories in the left side-bar menu just under the header graphic. Choose from "MFO Connections" for Places and People, or "Counties of Britain" for er, Counties of Britain! You can return to the main genealogy pages from the "Navigation" menu above, or simply by clicking on the header graphic at the top of every page.
