    • Hensley joined the staff of the Archives on 1 December 1905. At that time, he was fifty-three years of age, a former journalist who during the previous five years had been employed as a member of the Reporting Staff of the Senate. Around 1919, he prepared a document entitled "The Map Room" in which he provided his account of the founding of the Map Division.

      Hensley was responsible for the formation of the National Map Collection of Canada and under his stewardship, the collection grew rapidy to over 30,000 maps and plans.
